Nancy’s china around the world: The Buttered Cat in Singapore

I love a bit of cake, especially cake that I’ve never heard of before.  When one of our customers sent us a link to her new business in Singapore, The Buttered Cat, I fell in love with the gorgeous pictures of their speciality Sugee cakes!  Sugee cakes are Eurasian festive cakes which are served at a variety of celebrations; Christmas, weddings, New Year celebrations.  The cake’s distinctive flavour comes from the essential ingredients of semolina, butter, lots and lots of eggs and chopped roasted almonds – yum!

Sugee cakes from The Buttered Cat are topped with lemon Royal icing and the cupcake versions have lemon buttercream icing which also contains vanilla extract.  As well as sugee cakes, there are many other delicious looking and sounding cakes available in The Buttered Cat vintage tea room.  I recently spotted yummy looking chocolate cupcakes with caramel buttercream on their Facebook page.  The tearoom is also going to be serving savoury treats too including wholesome homemade pies.

The other thing that I like about The Buttered Cat is that the food and drink is served on vintage crockery and vintage cutlery.  It’s been nice spotting some of our vintage items in their pictures, along with other gorgeous vintage china items, including some patterns that I’ve not seen before.

I wish Singapore wasn’t so far away from London so that I could try some sugee cakes.  However, I’ve been promised a 360 degree shot of The Buttered Cat tearoom soon – at least then I can pretend that I’m there!
