Although I am a dedicated tea drinker, I still indulge in the occasional cup of coffee but the strong caffeine hit is often a bit too much for me. So I’ve been trying to replace my coffees with herbal teas.
I’ve been enjoying my tea adventures and on the weekend, I was excited to find a tea that I thought might distract me from my occasional coffee cravings: Yogi Choco tea. I’ve seen Yogi tea before but I don’t think I’ve ever tried it – probably partly because the flavours (and the packaging) didn’t appeal to me immediately. Maybe it’s the wintery weather but on this occasion I was drawn to the dark box of their Choco tea and the promise of a chocolatey taste intrigued me.
It was with some trepidation that I sipped my first cup last night. I tried not to have high expectations but I was hoping that it would at least live up to its Choco name even if it might not deliver on its promise on the box which says that the tea ‘will inspire feelings of joy with each cup’! The tea contains lots of interesting ingredients including cocoa shells, cardamom, and vanilla. The instructions say to infuse for 7 minutes or longer so I left the tea bag in the cup to maximise the flavour.
And the verdict…the tea is unlike any that I’ve tasted before. OK, so it’s not the same as having a hot chocolate or a café mocha but there’s a definite chocolate taste which seems to become more pronounced the further into the cup you get. The other flavours are hard to pin down, I think I can taste the cardamom and there’s something in the blend that also reminds me of rooibos tea. I’ve only had three cups so far but I’m looking forward to trying more. There’s also a Choco Spice flavour so I might be even more adventurous next time and expand my Yogi experience. And did I experience feelings of joy…well it did put a smile on my face!
